Your Boating Home on Port Jefferson Harbor

Sail & Power Boats

The Port Jefferson Yacht Club (formerly The Setauket Yacht Club) is located in the picturesque Village of Port Jefferson, New York, and is devoted to the interests of boating. It provides social, educational, cruising and racing programs. The programs extend throughout the year encompassing both the boating season and the off season.

  • We have reciprocal guest privileges with over 65 yacht clubs along the east coast, and frequently are hosts to yachts from all over the world.
  • A comprehensive sailing education program is open to the general public, and includes sailing lessons for juniors as well as adults.
  • A sail racing program open to Long Island boaters is held throughout the summer.

In September of 2015 the Yacht Club Membership voted to change the club’s name from the Setauket Yacht club to the Port Jefferson Club in recognition of the clubs home town and home port since 1960!

Port Jefferson is one of the most popular deep-water harbors on Long Island Sound. For yacht club cruises and other visiting sailors, this is the last major port on the Long Island shore as you head eastward. An extensive waterfront and development of the bustling village during the past several decades has made “Port Jeff” a must visit port of call. For the visiting sailors who want to go ashore for supplies or a good meal and stretch their legs, The Port Jefferson Yacht Club provides transient facilities which include use of moorings (up to 600 lbs), showers, ice, the use of club house BBQ grills and beverages at our Tell-Tales Bar.  Port Jefferson has an extensive assortment of shops, fine restaurants, and several mini-food markets for resupply within a short walking distance from our dock. There is also a commercial fuel dock just a few hundred yards away.

The attraction of idyllic protected coves totally within the Port Jefferson harbor area for overnight and weekend anchoring adds to the reason why many cruising sailors have selected the Port Jefferson Yacht Club for their home port. Furthermore, because of it’s central location on Long Island Sound, Port Jefferson is a convenient jumping off point to sailors heading west to ports on Long Island, NYC and Connecticut and east for the extended cruises to points such as Block Island, Narragansett Bay and the islands of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket off Cape Cod and beyond!

Here’s what some of our members have shared about PJYC

“I love that PJYC is located in the most desirable deep water port on Long Island with an unusually long free launch service to your boat. At PJYC we believe neither time nor tide should keep you from your boat!”

“Over the years Judy and I have developed lifelong friendships and we have come to regard the yacht club as our home away from home and the members as an extended family.”
VS, Surprise, Catalina 34

“I love keeping my sailboat in the PJ Harbor with the PJYC. In my mind, I start a mini-vacation every time I head to the harbor.”
KK, Windward, Tartan 34

“I joined less than two years ago because it was a very friendly and welcoming club, and in the best harbor on Long Island Sound!”
DH, Clara J, Herreshoff 'S' boat

I have made lifelong friends who I would not have met if I did not join PJYC. I have become a better sailor in getting to know fellow members and sailing enthusiasts!
