Safety at Sea Course

This is a US Sailing certified course which will get you an 'Offshore Certificate' compliant with World Sailing guidelines.
This certificate is required for a number of offshore races, and may also get you an insurance discount.
It covers:

  • Giving Assistance/Emergency Communications
  • Personal Safety Gear
  • Care & Maintenance of Safety Gear
  • Fire Safety, Use of Fire Extinguishers
  • Emergency Medical Services/Crew Health
  • Crew Overboard – bring your PDF!
  • Cold exposure
  • Heavy Weather
  • Hands on Experience with Flares (Bring expired flares)
  • Experience being in a life raft

For PJYC and MSSA members, there is a discounted price of $199 (normaly $235) for this whole day course.
You must complete a pre-requisite online course before attending. See below for a link. Cost is $150 for that.

Instructor:
Sheila McCurdy has sailed over 100,000 miles, is a Past Commodore of the Cruising Club of America, & chairs the National Faculty for the Training Division of US SAILING. She holds a 100-ton USCG Master’s license & a Master’s degree in Marine Affairs.
