Sailing School Frequently Asked Questions
Thank you for registering for summer sailing with us at PJYC Sailing School. Below is some helpful information and frequently asked questions. Feel free to reach out for more information. We look forward to seeing you soon!
No. Students can borrow a life jacket from us. However, it is helpful for students to have their own life jacket to ensure comfortability and quick dawning each day. Students wear Type 3 (Type III) lifejackets with us while sailing. These can be purchased at any sporting goods stores, Walmart, or online.
What time should our child be dropped off?
Students may be dropped off up to 10 minutes prior to the start of class.
Where is the yacht club located?
1 Pass Way, Port Jefferson
To access the club, enter in the street to the village center (big red building where Rinks ice skating is during winter). Keep heading on the same street, the club will down on your left just before the beach.
What should my child wear to class?
Closed toe shoes are required (no crocks) – old sneakers or water shoes are recommended. Students should be dressed as if they were going kayaking or going to the beach for the day. We recommend bathing suits and/or quick dry clothing to be worn each day as well as hats/sunglasses if the student wishes. Students may get wet while sailing, some days we will also go swimming! Please send your children to class already wearing sunscreen.
Should my child bring a snack?
Students may eat a small snack before/after being out on the water. No food will be brought out on the water while sailing. Students may bring a water bottle with them sailing.
What is the school’s EIN number?
11-2153963
Can I park at the yacht club while my child is sailing?
Yes! You may park and walk around the club while your child is in class. Port Jeff village is within walking distance from the club and offers many dining and coffee options!
What if it rains or there is poor weather?
We hold class rain or shine. If we are unable to head out on the water we will do indoor activities and drills at the club’s clubhouse.
